As someone who is in their early 20s, I’ve found myself developing a case of climate dread. I graduated with a degree in environmental conservation and sustainability so I have been studying our changing climate and environment for years now. It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed when it comes to protecting our planet, and it is easy to become discouraged from creating change. However, taking this curriculum has changed my attitude. It really showed me how little actions can have such a large impact on our ecosystems! Even protecting little things like insects is crucial. By taking little steps recommended by the curriculum I’ve been overcoming my climate dread. I live in Boston so my gardening space is limited but I am still making it happen! I’ve created planter boxes for my front porch with pollinator friendly herbs like basil, thyme, dill, oregano, and chives. I also harvested sunflower seeds and purchased zinnia seeds that I am excited to plant in the spring to help attract pollinators! Instead of pulling all the weeds out of my small yard, I decided to let it just grow and see what happens. I’ve actually seen multiple monarch butterflies in my backyard this past summer, which is surprising since in am in such an urban area. This curriculum has empowered me to make changes no matter how small, and it feels good to know that I am making an impact!
