In an effort to raise environmental awareness, model ecological sustainability and encourage active outdoor pursuits, Cuvilly is pleased to offer new community programs. These programs are designed with the following goals in mind:

  • to foster a deeper appreciation for and enjoyment of the natural world, particularly our local surroundings
  • to provide the opportunity to meet and interact with others in the community--make connections and build relationships
  • to explore the option of some of these activities being not solely recreational but also alternative modes of transportation
  • to have FUN while staying fit and utilizing your creative energies!

AT CUVILLY "WE CYCLE!"

Given the rise in gas prices and over-consumption of fossil fuels, we’d like to encourage the community to use bicycles more often!  It’s great exercise and it’s FUN, too!

Haven’t been on a bike in a while?  No problem!  We’ll be taking it slow and giving some basic cycling tips to help you feel more confident.

There’s no need for fancy clothes, an expensive bike or expert skills.  As long as your bicycle functions--brakes and wheels primarily--and you’re competent on a bike (you don’t need training wheels anymore), you’re good to go!  We even have an air pump for your tires!

Join us Saturday, October 18th for a beautiful 25 mile Bike-a-thon to help raise money for Cuvilly's efforts to promote local, sustainable living! Email info@cuvilly.org for details.

On Saturday, May 2nd from 12-2pm we will get our bicycles ready for spring rides during our "Bike Part Swap!" We'll also help you outfit your bike for doing errands around town. Bring baskets, handle bars, etc.

There is no cost for this event and you are not required to bring parts in order to participate. Just come on down!

Then on Saturday, May 9th, in conjunction with Cuvilly's Earth Day Celebration, we will be riding around town on a Bicycle Scavenger Hunt, collecting "goods" from local businesses in an effort to promote cycling as an alternative means of transportation. Registration is required. Email info@cuvilly.org for more information.

CUVILLY'S SUMMER: 2 New Programs!

"Just Imagine..."--for children in grades 2-5

and

“Simply Keep It Local” (SKIL)--for 6th-8th graders

"Just Imagine..."

In this program participants will tap into their own gifts and talents as they apply creative problem solving techniques to unique ‘Cuvilly challenges.' Teams will invent solutions that will be presented using music, art, theatre and resources found while exploring the Cuvilly campus. "Just Imagine…" was designed by Kate Dwyer, School Coordinator and Sr. Patricia Rolinger, Executive Director, inspired by the world renowned Destination Imagination.
Kate and Sr. Pat will be the program presenters.

“Simply Keep It Local” (SKIL)

This is a unique summer program filled with outdoor adventure, team building and learning.  Activities will focus on our theme of Bioregional Living--we’ll think about what it looked like for the indigenous people before us to live here utilizing what this region offered.  In turn, we’ll consider what it could look like for US to live using what exists right here around us.  What kind of materials do we have to build with?  What can we grow?  At Cuvilly’s beautiful farm, school and art studio, we’ll be hiking and exploring, doing group challenges, learning to grow food organically, working with the farm animals, and constructing a “Neesquato” (long house). Click here to download a brochure and registration form.

Space is limited and registration is required!
